Getting started with the IBM HTTP Server

This section provides information on getting started with the IBM HTTP Server and accessing the IBM Administration Server. Links to related topics appear at the end of this section.

Issue the following commands from the default directories, or take the appropriate steps to start the IBM HTTP Server, based on the operating system. For example:  

/usr/HTTPServer/bin/apachectl start

/opt/HTTPServer/bin/apachectl start

/opt/IBMHTTPServer/bin/apachectl start

/opt/IBMHTTPD/bin/apachectl start

Note: You can now install the server in any directory of your choosing. Issue the following command from that directory: directory of choice/bin/apachectl start

Pertains to Windows 2000 platform
  1. Click Start > Programs > IBM HTTP Server > Start Server. A message box indicating the server has started briefly appears.
  2. Open a browser and type in your server name in the URL box.
  3. Note: If you use the developer installation option, then the IBM HTTP Server does not install as a service. You have to run the apache.exe file from a command line.

If the IBM HTTP Server does not start:

  1. Go to Services in the Control Panel.
  2. Double-click IBM HTTP Server.
  3. Click .
  4. Highlight your user ID from the list, and click Add.

Accessing the IBM Administration Server

Accessing the IBM Administration Server with an Internet Explorer browser requires V5.0 or later. Accessing the IBM Administration Server with a Netscape browser requires Netscape V4.7 and later.

Note Currently Netscape V6.x does not provide support for the IBM Administration Server. Check the IBM HTTP Server Web site for the latest information regarding browser requirements.
